Wade Fishing for Shad in Fredericksburg, Virginia typically occurs in the month
of April.
Hickory and American shad had make their way from the bay to their birthplace and spawning ground
during this time. Shad are an anadromous species of fish - living in salt
water, but spawning in fresh water. Because shad cannot move past the
fall line, the Route 1 Bridge on the Rappahannock River is the perfect place
to slay the shad. Half-day tours are 4 hours of Fly Fishing fun.
Full-day trips last more than 4 hours, typically 6 to 8 hours of
fishing and include lunch. The Rappahannock is also an excellent place to practice your distance casting on the
fly rod.
