Target species / Timing
Our trips on the James primarily target smallmouth bass from April through mid-October. We also offer trips for Muskie on the James. An occasional catfish largemouth, Kentucky (spotted bass), or redeye can work its way into the mix. June offers a shot at long-nosed gar and which our guides sometimes enjoy targeting.
Access on the James is relatively unimpeded. We utilize a mix of private and state managed landings. You stand a better chance of turning coal into a diamond than enticing a guide to surrender a private landing contact.
Included are fly rods and reels needed for the day, flies, leaders tippet, lunch, H20 and other non-alcoholic beverages. Advisable to bring a rain jacket, sunscreen, sun protection garments, & polarized sunglasses. Some clients prefer to spin fish--feel free to discuss with guide. Not included essentials: Va fishing license, guide tip (always appreciated) at client's discretion.
